It is a while since we used this machine but we were all really impressed with how well it shredded the apples. Oh yeah just remembered that at the time we were happy we didn’t have to cut the apples, just chuck them in.
Very effective despite being a bit flimsy.
Works well but the grated apples don’t all fall out, which requires some hand intervention
Sturdy piece of kit and ideal for personal use, i found it helped by applying a bit of weight on top of the apples when you put them in the hopper,
It worked well for us , but we could have done with a larger sized one.
Was using a bucket with a 10l bucket with a spinny thingy and a heavy duty drill then got my hands on this and a 10 * improvement.
Originally was a bit dismayed i couldn’t get my hands on the style that lets you put it on top of the actual press.. but honestly this thing rocks.
One person with a 40l flexi bucket under this thing powered through apples. Two people on a 18l press could barely keep up, i suspect it could have kept 3 presses stocked.
I acquired an apple press and began making juice by crushing the apples in a bucket. This worked okay but was messy and I wasn’t sure I was extracting as much as I could. I bought the SSFD scratter and have really enjoyed using it. It’s a great pleasure to tip a load of apples into the chute, turn the handle and watch them being shredded. It’s simple to use, easy to clean, and pleasing to look at. On a late summer or early autumn day, there are few things I would rather do than collect apples, bring out the press and scratter, and fill a few bottles with fresh juice. The great plus of the SSFD model is it takes whole apples of any size and appears to be largely maintenance free. It resembles and acts like a giant sized Mouli cheese grater!

I used to use a domestic juicer to make cider – this was messy and very time consuming. With this scratter I can process apples quickly and easily. Together with an 18 litre cider press I was able process and press 3 gallons of cider in a couple of hours. Excellent quality, easy to clean. Just what I needed!
